The Awakening, a powerful and timeless story by Kate Chopin, is  about a woman’s journey of self-discovery. It tells the story of Edna Pontellier, a woman in late 19th century Louisiana, who is struggling to define her identity outside of her domestic duties. She begins to feel a sense of restlessness and dissatisfaction with her life, and embarks on a journey to find her true self. Along the way, Edna finds companionship in a number of people and begins to explore her sexuality. In the end, she must make a difficult choice between her newfound freedom and her traditional role in society.
