ocem is a Venezuelan-American writer who likes to explore the intersection of culture, ethnicity and what it is to be an immigrant in the United States.
Growing up, he gravitated towards the visual arts, infatuated by the Latin American muralist and the paintings of Goya and Paul Gauguin. He loved that they always told a story that you could immerse yourself in for hours trying to dissect the symbolism and meaning in every corner of their paintings. Thus, he became addicted to telling stories.
Vocem has a BFA and attended the Iowa Summer Writers Workshop and Oglethorpe University writer’s workshops. He has also taught creative development at the Portfolio Center.
